Amanda Shaw Honors Louisiana Culture with First Traditional Cajun Album
Joie offers music lovers youthful renditions of classic Cajun favorites
NEW ORLEANS, La. (July 9, 2020) – Today, renowned Louisiana musician Amanda Shaw, announces the release of a new Cajun album, Joie. This modern take on local heritage is Shaw’s first traditional Cajun recording, which celebrates the rich history of Louisiana culture with a fresh and youthful delivery of authentic Cajun music.
Joie, which simple means joy in French, is filled with high energy, soul stirring Louisiana classics that engages a new audience of Cajun music fans. The new music builds on decades of Shaw harvesting her craft under the guidance of Louisiana music legends – Grammy Award winning artists Terrance Simien, Chubby Carrier and Gina Forsyth. The talented artist also gained inspiration from Cajun music originators Dennis Macgee and Michael Doucet. Joie is a modern interpretation of Cajun creativity paying homage to the noble pioneers, while ushering in a fresh perspective of the authentic sounds born on the bayou.
“From a very young age, Cajun culture has influenced every aspect of my life – from my style of play to my fashion sense,” said Shaw. “More than twenty years into my career, I am so excited to breathe new life into the essence of classic Cajun music. I’m so proud that I have been able to welcome a new era of Cajun music fans, while remaining closely connected to my authentic roots. My sincere hope is that Joie will inspire the next generation of musicians just as recordings like Jolie Blonde and Grand Mamou have inspired me.”
Shaw continues to blaze new trails as a modern day Cajun music artist. Louisiana’s Sweetheart, as she is endearingly known, has added unique flair to the regional music scene by headlining some of the world’s largest and most significant festivals including French Quarter Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and many, many others. With the release of Joie, Shaw hopes to bring international attention to the rich culture of Louisiana through its roots in Cajun music. Shaw continues to spread her wings, not only as an artist and performer, but also as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.
In addition to new music, Shaw also recently collaborated with acclaimed jewelry artist, Cristy Cali, for a special jewelry design, Mariposas Moradas or Purple Butterflies. The special collection is a collaborative effort with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana (HCCL) that honors Shaw’s Hispanic roots and benefits the Mariposa Grant Program, an initiative led by HCCL that provides funding to local businesses impacted by COVID-19. A percentage of all sales from the Mariposas Moradas Collection will go directly to the Mariposa Grant Program.
Even before the release of Joie, the renowned fiddler has been sharing joy with audiences all over the world for decades. Shaw’s exciting career has flourished with special experiences and unique projects, celebrating local heritage through clever songwriting and exciting performances. Using her platform to engage her fan base, Shaw continues to be a strong advocate for Louisiana culture, local artists, female empowerment and homegrown music, and it is her desire to continue building her
