Lincoln Beach On this day in New Orleans May 25, 1939 and May 25, 2021

Founded in 1939, Lincoln Beach opened to the black public in 1941; the beach was one of the few places where black residents could find relief from the New Orleans summer heat.
Since the closure of Lincoln beach in 1963, there’s hope that Lincoln Beach will once again be a place for future generations to create memories, thanks to a group of cultural bearers who founded New Orleans for Lincoln Beach Foundation.

On Tuesday (April 13),  Legendary Cash Money rapper Juvenile, real name Terius Gray, recently received a high honor in his home city of New Orleans.

I want to extend my congratulations to Juvenile for this incredible honor! He is entitled to the title of Son of New Orleans as he is known for his talent, humbleness and represents the city’s essence and spirit. Juvenile is New Orleans. He’s more than deserving of praise for all he has contributed to the culture!

NOLA Street Bucket Drummer: Beats OF A NOLA Girl

She looked confident as each stick hit its intended bucket as if she knew for sure that it would produce a beat that will get the crowd dancing. Joy and bashfulness took over her as the crowd grew thick. She was loving and living in the moment. I would say she enjoyed the sounds she created more than the group she captured. It was as if the beating of her heart was in sync with her very being. Her mind formed the music, hand and sticks flowed like blood to her heart and drum beating the tunes reminiscent of our ancestors playing in Congo Square. This little girl and the sticks and buckets are the lifelines to our New Orleans history. St. Roch Community Youth SoapBox Collective hosted by Making Connections NOLA & Crescent Care Health

On Saturday evening, Mother’s Day Eve while most of you were out shopping for last minute Mother’s Day gifts for the phenomenal women in your lives; several of us from the St. Roch Community sat in a room in support of our talented youth and adults from our neighborhood. We came together in a low lit community room to listen and see the works of our youth entitled” Soapbox Collective,” you may know it by Open Mic for an evening of music, performances, and works of arts that engage the issues of our young people.
